RIPE is a collection of essays produced during Corridor8’s first residency programme, in partnership with The Tetley in Leeds and broadly responding to two exhibitions that ran concurrently between 22 July and 9 October 2016: Polyculture, a solo show of recent work by artist Jonathan Trayte exploring food production and capitalist consumerism; and Lovers and Romances, a retrospective look at the censorship trial sparked by an exhibition of paintings by Stass Paraskos at the Leeds Institute in 1966.
The publication includes an editorial by Lara Eggleton and essays by writer-in-residence Abi Mitchell, established writers Sally O’Reilly and Colin Perry, a review of an art/culinary event ‘Snafling’ (hosted by FEAST journal at The Tetley on 5 October 2016) by the Leeds based food critic M. Bonsers, and a limited-edition bespoke insert by artist Jonathan Trayte using international food packaging.
RIPE was co-commissioned by Corridor8 and The Tetley, funded by Arts Council England, Leeds Art Fund and the Leeds Philosophical and Literary Socieity, and produced in collaboration with Dust and ASAP Digital Ltd.
