YVAN / Corridor8 writing residency

Deadline 22 February, 2019. Apply through CuratorSpace.

Yorkshire & Humber Visual Arts Network (YVAN) and Corridor8 are looking for a critical/creative writer to become part of a conversation about the Yorkshire visual art ecology.

Working alongside artist Sarah Smizz, they will contribute to a publication that, through creative ‘snapshots’, discovers initiatives, unearths hierarchies and challenges the uncritical use of the term ‘resilient’ to describe artists in the region. The residency will run alongside YVAN’s Nourish programme, with potential for the writer to attend events and get involved.

They will receive mentoring from an established writer and evolve a piece of writing with editors at Corridor8 and designers at dust collective. The final work will feature on the Corridor8 website and in a new collaborative publication, to be launched in May 2019.

The successful applicant will be based in the Yorkshire & Humber region and at a stage of career where mentoring and support would greatly benefit them. They must be enthusiastic about working in collaboration with others and be willing to travel around the region (on public transport, no driving required). Applications will be judged on the suitability of proposals and strength of writing samples.

Fee: £1,500 inclusive of expenses (up to 10 days)

Timeframe: March – May 2019*

*Hours are flexible but applicants must be available for an initial meeting on Friday 8 March, 11am, at The Arthouse, Wakefield.
