Castlefield Gallery & The International 3

Iris Priest was Writer-in-Residence at Castlefield Gallery throughout Spring – Summer 2017, coinciding with the exhibition Andrew McDonald (28 April – 7 June 2017). This residency programme in partnership with Castlefield Gallery and The International 3 was created to encourage critical and creative forms of art writing which connect contemporary art to wider issues and contexts. Priest spent ten days on site at Castlefield Gallery working with Communications and Audience Development Coordinator Jennifer Dean, Curator Matthew Pendergast, established writer Michael Birchall, Corridor8 Editor and Residency Coordinator James Schofield and participating artist Andrew McDonald, to develop an essay in response to themes arising from the artist’s work.

Priest’s essay features here and in the publication, Restlessness, alongside contributions by Ellen Mara De Wachter, Michael Birchall and Andrew McDonald.

An events programme ran alongside the residency, including an in-conversation between Birchall and McDonald (11 June 2017), an art writing workshop and publication launch (both 16 September 2017).

Funded by Arts Council England, Castlefield Gallery and The International 3.

Hot off the press, Restlessness ready for its public introduction at our publication launch.

Attendees wait for the Art Writing Workshop at the Great Northern Tower to begin.
